The United Synagogue's Kashrut Division is celebrating more than 1000 people signing up to its Facebook group and in the process becoming one of the most popular kosher resources on the social networking giant.

KLBD Kosher Direct is a closed group where potential members need to be approved before they are allowed to join, but despite the procedure for signing up, 1034 members are now members with many more joining daily.

Recently, 17-year-old Tilly Rosenblatt from Liverpool became the 1000th person to join the group which was set up in July 2007.

The KLBD claims its Facebook group allows it to reach people outside of its other online channels as well as providing answers to questions outside office hours.

"Kosher Direct has attracted many people who would not otherwise contact the Kashrut Division with product enquiries," said KLBD Kosher Direct administrator Rosalind Coten. "We provide quick and easy access to kashrut information at any time, answering questions even outside normal office hours. The fast growth of the group is a testimony to the popularity of the service we offer."
